League Rules


  1. Review of Rules - Junior Varsity
    1.  
      • Four 8 minute quarters will be played with an eight minute halftime
      • Five personal fouls per player per game
      • Three one minute timeouts (first whistle at 45 seconds) & Two Half timeouts per game.
      • No back court press allow except the last two minutes of each half unless team is ahead by 20 or more points, then they may not press.
      • Full size ball will be used for JV boys;
      • Boys JV 5th Grade and all Girls will use the 28.5 size ball.
      • Players MUST be full time students of the school competing.
      • Player shooting the free throw may not jump over the line after releasing the ball or charge in to get the rebound before it is touched by another player (or violation).
      • Players may enter into lane upon release of the ball from foul shooter.
      • Playing time:  The first 3 Quarters of each game will require the coach to follow a predetermined rotation that is determined by the number of players on the team.  The intent is to play “all” the players as equally as possible.  See the detailed JV Substitution Rules for further details and guidelines contained in the Coaches Handbook. 
      • MAN-TO-MAN DEFENSE:  Mandatory in the 1st and 3rd quarters.
      • A Technical foul will be given to any coach and/or parent who screams and/or berates players, officials or coaches in any manner.  Further unsportsmanlike behavior will result in eviction, suspension or expulsion.
      • Two officials will be used per game.
      • No player from the varsity level may play on a JV team.  No 6th grade player may play in the 5th grade division.

       

    2. Review of Rules - Varsity (follows same rules as NFHS)

      • Press in the backcourt is permitted except by a team who is ahead by 20 points or more.
      • Girls will use the 28.5 ball
      • Players MUST be full time students of the schools competing.
      • Player shooting the free throw may not jump over the line after releasing the ball or charge in to get the rebound before it is touched by another player (or violation).
      • Players may enter the lane upon release of the ball from the foul shooter.
      • 3-point shots will be permitted and scored.
      • A Technical foul will be given to any coach and/or parent who screams and/or berates players, officials or coaches in any manner.  Further unsportsmanlike behavior will result in eviction, suspension or expulsion.
      • Two officials will be used per game.
      • No player from the Varsity Level may play on a JV team.  No National player may play in the American Division and the reverse as well is not allowed.

       

    3. Referees

      • Fee is split equally between both teams.
      • If official is more than 15 minutes late, he must accept half the pay for that game. Please call Ref Coordinator if this happens more than once.
      • A team with a no show must still pay for half the ref's fee.
      • Technical Fouls: The following offenses may be assessed a technical foul and/or immediate ejection from the game (subsequent offenses by the individual may result in multi-game or permanent suspension):
        1. Any foul language by a coach, assistant coach, parent or player. This especially includes the phrase "Jesus Christ or God damn it"
        2. Any non-head coach addressing an official. Head coach must stay in "the box"
        3. Harassment of the official.
        4. Continued and aggressive flagrant fouls by a player
        5. Fee is $48 per Official per game.

       

    4. Tournaments

      • Varsity:
        1. Begins on February 28th and ends March 10th
        2. All games are to be completed by February 24th
        3. Tournament Committee will have the final decision on any conflicts.
        4. All-Star Tournament will be played March 11, 2007
      • Junior Varsity:
        1. Begins February 28th and ends March 10th
        2. Tournament Committee will have the final decision on any conflicts.
      • League Standings: Please fax/send/email each team's league record to League Director Designee by February 24th, so this info can be published and distributed accordingly.
      • In case of identical win/loss records, the team with the more wins against that individual opponent will have the higher seed. If the wins are tied as well, the greater combined score from these games played will obtain the higher seed.

       

    5. Other Items
      • All home teams must keep a first aid kit easily accessible by both teams.
      • Players # must be worn on both front and back of jersey or tee shirt.
      • All substitutions are to be "buzzed" by the scorekeeper and must wait for verification from the official before entering the court.
      • Team failing to appear within 20 minutes of the scheduled time forfeits the game unless mutual agreement allows the delay.
      • Season begins December 1st and ends February 24th..  Any games before December 1st will be considered scrimmages and will not count towards league standings. Practices should not commence before November 1st.
      • Each school is permitted two date changes for games.  Change may be made by AD only.  Each subsequent change will be assessed a $100 fee.  A minimum of 72 hours is required.
      • Home team is responsible to provide the game ball.
